Obama nominates donor to be envoy to Norway

(AP) WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama said Tuesday he will nominate a top Democratic political fundraiser to be ambassador to Norway, one of a long list of nominations announced by the White House for posts throughout his administration.
Obama selected George Tsunis, the founder, chairman and CEO of Chartwell Hotels, as his nominee for the ambassadorship to Norway. He also nominated career foreign service officials for ambassadorships to Jamaica and to the Republic of Angola.
Nominated to be representatives to the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly were Reps. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., and Mark Meadows, R-N.C. Obama nominated former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland to be one of the alternate representatives to the U.N session.
Obama also nominated Beth Cobert to be deputy director of the White House budget office, Sloan Gibson as a deputy secretary at the Veterans Affairs Department, Heather Anne Higginbottom to be deputy secretary at the State Department, Jim Shelton as deputy secretary at the Education Department and John Carlin, a career prosecutor, to be assistant attorney general for national security at the Justice Department.
