Lenox man gets up to 6 years for fatal crash

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Lenox man who was still in high school when he crashed his car and killed a teenage girl has been sentenced to up to six years in prison.
Philip Baruch Jr. was sentenced Wednesday in Berkshire Superior Court to charges of vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger and speeding charges.
Authorities say the now 19-year-old Baruch was impaired and speeding when he crashed in December 2011. The prosecutor said not only was Baruch's blood alcohol content above the legal limit to drive, but his blood tested positive for marijuana and opiates.
His passenger, 17-year-old Remy Kirshner, died when the car burst into flames. Both were students at Lenox High School at the time.
The Berkshire Eagle reports that Baruch apologized in court.
