Warren County sheriff has concerns about new gun laws

QUEENSBURY – Warren County Sheriff Bud York is speaking out on New York’s recently passed, toughest in the nation gun laws.
York says he is confident that sheriffs in New York will enforce the laws as required. However, he says that most sheriffs support some aspects of the law while questioning the effectiveness of others.
“While some provisions of this bill have surface appeal, it is far from certain that many of them will have a significant effect in reducing violence,” York wrote in a public letter to the citizens of Warren County.
York also expresses concern about how fast the law was pushed through.
“The governor did his job and presented the legislature with his proposal for dealing with a serious problem,” the sheriff wrote. “What I don’t understand is the legislature’s willful abandonment of the regular legislative process to rush through a very complicated and controversial bill without giving even the members of the legislature, much less the citizenry, time to analyze and respond to the proposal.”
York says people will be alarmed if what he calls a “steamroller approach” to important legislation becomes the normal way things get done in Albany.
