ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - State officials say they've started a $648,000 project to save energy at the state office campus and wrapped up a $1.3 million upgrade of the steam plant that serves the downtown Albany Empire State Plaza.

They say the work at the plant and the W. Averell Harriman State Office Building Campus will save about $220,000 a year in energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The projects are part of a plan to improve energy efficiency at state facilities by 20 percent over the next seven years.

The office campus is on 330 acres in western Albany.
