SALEM, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they've charged a 16-year-old boy and another youth with going on a Christmas night shooting spree that caused $12,000 in damage to numerous vehicles, buildings and other property in two neighboring Washington County towns.

Troopers say investigators on Thursday arrested Dustin Kvinlaug of Salem and a juvenile whose name isn't being released because of his age. They're charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief, Illegal discharge of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.

Police say the boys drove around shooting a .22-calibre rifle at vehicles, garages and outdoor lighting in the rural towns of Salem and Jackson.

The 16-year-old was released on house arrest. The unnamed juvenile's case is being handled in family court.
