WARRENSBURG - Sadie Robinson is 29-years old and the mother of two young children.
In court Tuesday morning, she learned that she can't have contact with her 15-month old and 3-month old. And that's because she's accused of trying to set fire to the apartment she shares with the children and their father, Peter Moody.
According to investigators, Moody was sleeping Monday morning when Robinson tried to burn the apartment house down.
Police say Robinson put a can of WD-40 in the oven set at 400-degrees. It didn't catch fire, but police say the apartment filled with heavy, black smoke.
Moody woke up when the smoke alarms went off. Police say if he hadn't, he might not be around to tell about it.
"We were told that at a certain temperature and under certain conditions, this could've ignited and caused a serious fire and at the very least an explosion within that stove," said Lt. Steven Stockdale of the Warren County Sheriff's Office.
According to court documents, Robinson had it all planned out. They say she bought plane tickets to Florida for herself and her kids using her boyfriend's tax return debit card. They say she loaded the kids into a taxi before she turned on the oven and once outside, they all took off for Albany. Police picked her up at the airport before they boarded the plane.
"She was en route to Tampa, Florida to start a new life," said Stockdale.
Back at court Tuesday, The judge set bail at 40-thousand dollars cash and 80-thousand dollars bond.
Robinson was most upset when she learned she couldn't have contact with her children.
NewsChannel 13 asked Robinson if she was sorry. "Absolutely, you know I want my kids," Robinson said.
