AMSTERDAM - A wayward deer is getting a second chance at life tonight, thanks to a group of rescuers in Montgomery County.

The Amsterdam police and fire departments, along with wildlife rehabilitator Sarah McDaniel-Austin, rescued the young deer after it became impaled on a city fence.

They were able to free it and get it to McDaniel-Austin's home, where it was treated.

Police say the deer did lose its leg, but it seems to be recovering nicely so far.
