Grandmother charged in boy's beating death

SCHENECTADY – A woman accused of causing the death of her 8-year-old grandson has been sent to jail without bail.
Gloria Nelligan, 43, faced a judge Monday morning. She is now charged with first-degree manslaughter.
Police say Nelligan repeatedly beat Sha'Hiim Nelligan over a prolonged period from Friday night into Saturday.
Police say the young victim was up and about Saturday morning, but was later found unresponsive.
Nelligan is due back in court Friday morning.
