RENSSELAER - New charges are being filed against Mark Fusco, the Rensselaer Police officer involved in a deadly crash last Wednesday.

The district attorney's office tells NewsChannel 13 that Fusco is now facing charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter and aggravated DWI.

Police say 22-year-old Mark Fusco, the son of Rensselaer Police Chief Rick Fusco, was behind the wheel of a car when it smashed into a tree on Third Avenue near High Street on the East Greenbush-Rensselaer line.

He faces numerous charges, including DWI and speeding, and remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

The passenger of the car was thrown from the vehicle and killed. That person's name has not yet been released.

"The chief respectfully requests to keep this as a personal matter,” Deputy Police Chief Frankoski told NewsChannel 13.

Frankoski said the chief is attending to his injured son at the hospital.
