SCHENECTADY – A woman was arraigned Friday on murder and manslaughter charges.
Police say 43-year-old Gloria Nelligan beat 8-year-old Sha'hiim over a two day period.
He died from hypovolemic shock, (shock caused by severe blood or fluid loss) and cerebral edema (an excess accumulation of fluid in the intracellular or extracellular spaces of the brain.)
Despite arguments from her attorney, bail was denied, so she remains in the county jail. The judge also issued an order of protection for three of her daughters, who are also witnesses in the case.
