SCHENECTADY – Police have identified a man shot and killed by police Thursday on Balltown Road.

Julio Colon, 40, was shot by police after they responded to a domestic dispute.

Police say Colon had a knife to his roommate's throat and ignored officers calls to stop.

After Sgt. Darryl Mallard fired once, Colon lunged at officers. Colon was shot an additional two times.

Colon was taken to the hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Police say this was a justified shooting.
