ALBANY – A city that’s seen its fair share of manhole cover problems, is now dealing with another one.

This time, a cover blew off, right in front of the Times Union Center.

The explosion happened around 5:30 Thursday morning on South Pearl Street, just outside the arena.

National Grid crews were out Thursday afternoon repairing the main underground cable, which they say failed and smoldered, causing gases to build up and push the lid out of its place.

No one was hurt.
