ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The massive payroll processing company Paychex says it's committed to providing equal opportunity to all, and its agreement with the state comptroller to specifically protect transgendered people shows that.

New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli had leveraged the influence of the state pension fund to prod Paychex, which it invests in, to spell out its opposition to discrimination and harassment of employees based on gender identification.

DiNapoli had started to draw up a proposal to try to force a shareholders' vote on the changes.

Paychex, based near Rochester, issued its statement Friday.
