BALLSTON SPA – Augie’s Family Style Italian Restaurant on Route 50 in Ballston Spa has been torn down, after a fire destroyed it on Monday morning.

Firefighters got the first call around 4:30 a.m.

When they got there, they say the basement was fully involved in flames.

Firefighters tried to get inside, but it was too dangerous and they pulled back.

The owner says he left around 10:00 Sunday night. His manager left about an hour later.

The restaurant has been here about nine years. The owner says he just wants to get back in the kitchen and start working again.

"The wonderful people, the support that we’ve gotten, the text messages and e-mails, you don’t realize how many people you effect when you’re running a nice little restaurant. They’re coming out. They’re really supportive with their thoughts and prayers. We'll be back We're going to rebuild this place and feed people again," said owner Augie Vitiello.

The cause is under investigation.

The owner says he plans to rebuild in the same spot.
