It was no accident that former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, wound up mingling with gun enthusiasts in Saratoga Springs.
The former astronaut and his wife say they believe New Yorkers are working to solve the gun violence problem, citing Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's agreement with every gun show owner mandating instant background checks when ever a firearm is bought or sold.
Giffords and Kelly, who formed Americans for Responsible Solutions this past January, would like to see the New York protocol serve as a model for the entire country.
After the NRA spent $19 million during the 2012 election, Captain Kelly says he'd like to raise enough money to match the NRA's influence for the 2014 elections. Kelly says he's not concerned about changing anyone's mind about gun control policies, the bigger challenge, he believes, is changing their minds about politics.
