GUILDERLAND - A man is behind bars, accused of torching a vacant building and now NewsChannel 13 has learned he may be tied to other arsons in the area.

Matthew Woelfersheim, 37, was arrested on Monday and charged with third-degree arson.

He's accused of setting fire to a vacant building across from Gruelich's Market on Carman Road.

There have been a number of unsolved fires in Guilderland in recent weeks and others in the area, as well.

NewsChannel 13 called police to see if Woelfersheim could be connected to them.

They say they are looking at that possibility and say, it's going to be a large scale investigation.

NewsChannel 13 has also learned that he used to be a member of the Schaghticoke Village Fire Department.

The chief says they let him go about two years ago because he was accused of stealing money and equipment.
