RENSSELAER - Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino presented her 2014 budget proposal on Friday.
The budget would raise property taxes by 1.9%
Jimino pointed out the fiscal reality facing Rensselaer County.
The unemployment rate is 6.9%
20% of the population is on Medicaid and the number of county residents applying for food stamps is up 43% from 2008.
Jimino also acknowledged that the state has provided some mandate relief.
Jimino says that despite those changes $.90 out of every tax dollar the County collects goes to pay state mandated costs.
