Soda manufacturers are starting to see their sales fizz out.
Experts say more health conscious Americans may be to blame.
Sales of regular soda are down three percent, while sales of diet soda are down seven percent.
This year, Americans will consume 3.5 fewer gallons of soda than we did five years ago.
“Sugary drinks are basically liquid calories with no nutritional value...One of the first things we talk about when we talk about control of weight is...sweet drinks or sodas. That is a very easy place to make a big difference in terms of weight loss and general health,” says Dr. Nicholas Solomos, a doctor from Houston who works with internal medicine.
Dr. Solomos recommends bottled water as a substitute for soda.
