New York State is considering a change to its Primary Election Day.

It would be held in June to coincide with the Federal Primary Day.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says it's hoped that combining the two elections will encourage voter turnout. It would also eliminate the administrative burden on local governments statewide.

Silver says moving the Primary Day would save taxpayers nearly $50 million each year.
