Dozens of schools in the Capital Region closed Tuesday morning because of the extreme cold.
In a rare move, Albany City Schools closed for the day. A spokesman says while they tend to stay open during some lighters snowstorms, the extreme cold is dangerous for the many students who walk to school.
A Schenectady church is opening its doors to serve as a warming station. The Bridge Christian Church at 735 Crane St. is offering warm drinks, food and winter clothing.
The church is accepting winter coats, clothing or food donations.
The warming station will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A warming station is also open in Cohoes at the Community Center on Remsen Street.
