LAKE GEORGE – An off-duty state trooper is credited with catching a man wanted for manslaughter in Virginia.

David DiPaolo, 31, was wanted for questioning in connection with a December 28 murder. He now faces manslaughter charges in connection with the death of Geoffrey Farrar, 69. Police say DiPaolo beat Farrar to death with a claw hammer during a fight. DiPaolo claims Farrar was choking him, and he had to act in self-defense.

Our media partners at The Post Star report the trooper spotted a minivan off Northway Exit 21 that had been part of an interstate manhunt. The search began focusing on that area after police learned the suspect used a debit card in Glens Falls.

A federal charge was also filed because the alleged murder happened in a national park.
