Fairfield’s Felicia DaCruz hit the front end of a one-and-one with eight-tenths of a second left in overtime as the Stags prevailed 66-65 over Siena Women’s Basketball in a wild affair at Webster Bank Arena. Siena had overcome a six-point deficit with 17.2 seconds left in regulation to force the extra period.

With DaCruz driving from the top of the key in the final second, a foul was called setting up the decisive free throw.

Da Cruz’s foul shot capped a wild final 18 seconds. The Fairfield (10-6, 5-2) point guard banked in a three as the shot clock expired, giving the Stags a 65-62 lead with 17.1 seconds remaining. But on the ensuing possession, the Saints’ (6-10, 1-6) Kanika Cummings answered with a three of her own from the left corner to knot the score for an 11th and final time with 8.1 seconds remaining.

Cummings had been the hero in regulation for Siena as her three with 1.8 seconds left sent the game to overtime. After Kelsey Booth’s triple had pulled the Saints within three with 14 seconds to go, the Stags’ Alexys Vazquez was tied up on the inbounds and the possession arrow favored Siena.

Booth, who made a major contribution with nine points and eight rebounds off the bench, missed a potential game-tying three with 4.1 seconds left but the rebound went out of bounds to the Saints setting up Cummings’ heroics.

Cummings led the Saints with 16 points and added seven rebounds, while Tehresa Coles added 11 points. Ida Krogh contributed 10 points on 5-8 shooting for Siena which has lost six of seven to Fairfield.

DaCruz scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half and overtime for the Stags which harbored a 26-22 lead following a slow paced first half. The second half and overtime was played more to Siena’s tempo as the Saints shot 48.6% over the final 25 minutes and Fairfield shot at a 50% clip.

Katie Cizynski led all scorers with 19 points and eight rebounds for Fairfield, while frontcourt mate Brittany Obi-Tabot added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Siena continues its season long three-game road trip Saturday at new MAAC member Quinnipiac. The programs meet for the first time at 1 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
