Automated external defibrillators seem to be working.
That’s according to data released on Monday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.
They say 15 percent of patients that the device has been used on have been saved. That’s nearly double the national average of eight percent. This year alone, the device has saved at least three lives in New York State.
In 2005, New York State required all public institutions and buildings to carry AEDs. State police have been training with them since 2007.
