The off season may not be enough time for a football player's brain to recover.

A small study out of the University of Rochester looked the brains of ten Divison 3 football players before and after the season, and after six months of rest.

None suffered a concussion, though they did take hits to the head.

Researchers found the athletes had more changes in the white matter of the brain after the season, and those changes were still there six months later.
