WATERVLIET – A long line of parents and adult guardians formed outside the recreation building where the Watervliet High students had been taken.

Most waited patiently as officials checked a list and then released the students.

But a few parents weren't happy with delayed or incomplete notifications of the unusual relocation.

There was a bomb threat last night," Kareem Keitt said. "They did not notify any of the parents here in Watervliet. The Mayor's office and the police department should have notified all of us parents."

Officials say the first bomb threat was phoned to police about 12:30 AM.

It was investigated but no evidence of a bomb was found.

School remained as scheduled.

But later in the morning a second threat was phoned to police.

"The Chief conferred with other officers as well as myself and made the decision that, seeing that student safety and staff safety is paramount, we would evacuate to a safer location," said Watervliet School Superitendent Lori Caplan.

Police Chief Ron Boisvert explained that "although we felt pretty comfortable that the building was secure because we had control of the building since midnight or 12:30 in the morning, erring on the side of safety, we decided that we would prefer to have the students out of the school because we weren't sure what this person was up to."

No arrests have been reported by police.

Officials are considering what modifications should be made to policy to minmize future class disruptions.
