BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Bennington County State's attorney's office has cleared a Bennington police officer for his role in the wounding of a knife wielding man in the lobby of the police station in the southwestern Vermont town.
State's Attorney Erica Marthage says her investigation into the April 22 shooting of Gregory Filo by Sgt. Michael Plusch is routine in such cases.
A separate investigation by the Vermont Attorney General's office is continuing.
Police say Filo was wounded by Plusch after Filo refused to drop a knife he was carrying while making stabbing motions.
Filo has since pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Bennington Banner (http://bit.ly/1kM1smh ) reports Marthage has notified Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette about the results of her investigation.
