ALBANY – UAlbany’s longtime athletic director is stepping down.

The school announced Monday that Dr. Lee McElroy Jr. will be retiring at the end of the month.

McElroy has been at UAlbany since 2000. He provides leadership to 19 NCAA Division I programs.

Before that, he worked at American University.

At the request of UAlbany President Robert Jones, McElroy will stay on as senior advisor for Intercollegiate Athletics Advancement and Engagement until the end of 2014.

A search is now underway for his replacement.
