LAKE GEORGE - New signs warning of invasive aquatic species could soon sprout up at boat launches.

The senate passed a bill on Thursday directing the State DEC to post the signs.

The species like zebra mussels, Asian clams and hydrilla have been known to destroy ecosystems.

The issue has been talked about for at least 30 years.

A program that began last year made it mandatory for boats on Lake George to be inspected and washed before they launch. The water used in the cleaning process is 150 degrees.

The bill will now head to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office.
