A group of Albany students will get a chance to better understand a terrifying time in U.S. history this weekend—by visiting the sites where it occurred. It's an area where many young people were beaten and harassed. Three even died there.
“Freedom Summer” in 1964 was when thousands of young civil rights activists, many of them white, traveled to Mississippi and other southern segregated states to help blacks register to vote.
