ALBANY – Fireworks lit up the night sky over Empire State Plaza, where thousands of people stood elbow-to-elbow Friday to watch New York State’s Fourth of July Celebration presented by Price Chopper.

Though the rain held off, an overcast sky may have kept some people at home. The crowd appeared to be smaller than it was in previous years. State Police did not have a solid estimate.

Those who did come enjoyed a brilliant pyrotechnics display that included 10,000 individual shells, including 2,000 shells for the Grand Finale, according to Alonzo Fireworks.

Earlier in the day, visitors enjoyed food, festivities, and live music on two stages. The celebration kicked off with a naturalization ceremony at 3:00 p.m.
