AMSTERDAM – A man is charged with physically assaulting a 2-year-old left in his care by his girlfriend – while a 6-year-old child watched.
Officers were called to 298 East Main Street around 2:30 Thursday morning, by someone they’re calling a “concerned citizen.”
That’s where police say they found a child with a broken leg, hematoma to the forehead, and contusions to the eye, back, and legs.
Earl Stevens, 33, now faces charges related to child endangerment and assault.
According to police, he originally told the mother that the child fell off a counter. However, after interviewing Stevens, police say they believe he caused the injuries.
The child was placed in the care of his biological father.
Police say more charges are possible.
