As you might imagine I am a news junkie. I watch a lot of news shows and one of my favorite anchors is NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams. I think he is great in live interviews, at setting the scene during breaking news stories and his ability to ad lib during live events sometimes leaves me cheering. I know what you're thinking-PUT DOWN THE REMOTE, SISTER! GET OUT AND ENJOY LIFE.
Recently, I was watching video outtakes on NBC.com and saw Miss America, Katie Stam taking a shot at being an anchor and goofing off with MSNBC anchor, Willie Geist. She, Miss America said she had always wanted to be an anchor. The out takes were hilarious and even more comedic, when anchor Williams came into the studio to find Miss America, with crown still on, sitting at the desk, reading the news.
Years ago, when I was young, a kid could dream big. In fact, adults supported, encouraged, and took the time to mentor and teach kids, helping them achieve their dreams. It seems that we adults (some, not all) are too busy these days to invest in kids. Recently a friend of mine was sharing how difficult it was to get a big brother
for her son and was lamenting how sad it was that there was no male figure willing to step up and help her son become a man and achieve his dreams. Maybe it was the call for people to participate in service projects during the recent Dr. Martin Luther King holiday, but I have hope that there will be a big resurgence in people giving of themselves in service of others. And, hopefully many people will re-invest in children. In the meantime, I encourage kids to keep dreaming BIG!
