VT Governor pledges to veto same sex marriage bill

MONTPELIER - Vermont Governor Jim Douglas said he will veto a bill to legalize gay marriage if it passes the state legislature.

Douglas said lawmakers should not have spent their time on the bill this session.

They should be focused instead on the economy and the State's budget deficit.

On Monday, the Senate passed a bill that would allow same sex couples to marry.

The House is now considering similar legislation.
