Man flees from police, hits patrol car

A driver fled from police at high speeds Thursday morning and hit a police car before he abandoned the vehicle and tried to evade police on foot, officials said.

The man fled from a Warren County sheriff’s officer as the officer tried to pull over a black sport-utility vehicle for having a lapsed inspection sticker, prompting a 15-minute chase from Stony Creek through Hadley and into Corinth. The pursuit began about 9:35 a.m.

Police said the SUV hit 100 mph on Hadley Road, and police pursued it southbound onto Route 9N, where officers discontinued the pursuit for safety reasons, authorities said. The SUV sideswiped a Warren County sheriff’s patrol car during the chase, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

Officers located the vehicle after it was abandoned near Park Street in Corinth, and arrested the man who was believed to have been driving it without incident walking nearby. His name was not immediately available.

Officers from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and Warren County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the case.

More details will be posted as they become available.
