Matt McFarland joined the WNYT reporting staff in February 2006. Before coming to the Capital Region Matt's first job in the news business took him all over Vacationland—that's the beautiful state of Maine. Matt comes to us from WLBZ, the NBC affiliate in Bangor, Maine.
His two years reporting there took him everywhere from the rooftop of Maine to cover an ice age-like ice jam in the Allagash Wilderness, down to a number of small picturesque towns that sit on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, on Friday nights in the fall he'd pick up a camera and drive to high schools all across Eastern Maine to shoot football.
Matt is a 2003 graduate from Syracuse University and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication (yup, that's the year SU won its first National Title in basketball).
Born and raised in Connecticut, Matt now calls Guilderland home. While both his parents and his sister are teachers back home, reporting and telling stories is something Matt has always wanted to do—though he admits, he is envious of those summers off. In his spare time he loves participating and watching sports, rooting on his beloved Orange and working on his (bad) golf game.
