Lydia Kulbida

Lydia Kulbida co-anchors NewsChannel 13’s 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts with Jim Kambrich.

She joined the staff in January 2000, and in that first year working with Ed Dague was part of the Best Newscast as chosen by the New York State Broadcaster's Association.

Since then, she has continued the NewsChannel 13 tradition of excellent news coverage and community involvement. Lydia flew with the U. S. Navy Blue Angels during the Schenectady County Air show and covered the Republican National Convention. She's worked closely with a number of charities, including the Northeastern Association for the Blind at Albany, Zorepad Ukrainian Folk Dancers, Living Resources and the Center for Independence.

Lydia came to the Capital Region from WWLP-TV 22 in Springfield, Massachusetts, where she anchored the 5 p.m. news and reported for more than four years. Her work took her from Jerusalem to Hollywood. She also flew with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, piloting an F-16 herself. While in Springfield, Lydia was honored by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children for her work in promoting the safety and welfare of children.

Lydia has a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from New York University, and her on-camera career began in the North Country. She anchored and reported at TV-8 in Glens Falls, working there with Saratoga-North Country News Chief Mark Mulholland before he also joined NewsChannel 13. She then spent four years in Buffalo working as a news anchor and music director for that city's National Public Radio affiliate, WBFO-FM.

Lydia's husband Nicholas is a physician at Bellevue Woman's Hospital in Niskayuna. They have two children.
