Obama considering visit to Malta

MALTA - President Obama is considering a trip to Saratoga County.

Sources in law enforcement, politics and someone with connections to GlobalFoundries say the president is considering a trip to the GlobalFoundries site next week.

A law enforcement source says that Secret Service has been checking out the area and Albany International Airport for a possible presidential visit next Tuesday.

A political source says the chip-fab site in Malta and Stillwater is among three sites currently being considered by the White House for a visit from the commander-in-chief.

Sources say Mr. Obama is planning to visit New York City on Tuesday of next week and they're hoping the president will come to Saratoga County before or after that visit on the same day.

GlobalFoundries and the Luther Forest Technology Campus have been asking the president to visit for several months. In fact, they'd hoped to have him there for their groundbreaking.
