All aboard survive fiery plane crash

SHEFFIELD, Mass. - Everyone aboard got off safely after a plane belonging to a Saratoga County-based industrial cleaning company was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday afternoon in the Berkshires.

FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac says the Cessna 208 caught fire after crashing in Sheffield. According to Salac, state troopers say the plane was carrying hazardous materials that caused it to burst into flames.

The plane belongs to North American Industrial Services. A company spokesman says the aircraft was returning to Saratoga Springs from Long Island when mechanical issues caused it to go down near the intersection of Route 141 and Kelsey Road.

This is the type of plane that crashed Tuesday in Sheffield, Mass.

Chris Finch, the general counsel for North American, says there were six people on board and that they all got off the plane safely.

The Sheffied emergency management director credits the pilot for saving people's lives.

Finch doubts that there were flammable materials on the plane. He says it's unlikely since the plane was returning from, not heading to, a job.

The same company also operates a company called North American Flight Services.
