Soldier's body returns home

COLONIE - The body of Army Staff Sgt. Amy Seyboth-Tirador, a native of Colonie, has returned to the Capital Region.

She is the first woman from the Albany area to die while serving in Iraq.

It was an emotional scene Friday morning at Albany International Airport where a grieving family welcomed home its daughter.

The plane carrying Seyboth-Tirador's remains arrived in Colonie around 9:45 a.m.

Her family stood by embracing one another as an Army honor guard carried the flag-draped coffin to a waiting hearse.

Seyboth-Tirador died last week in Iraq. Her mother says she was shot in the back of the head while inside a secure Army base.

So far the Army will only say it is investigating and that the 29-year-old Colonie native died from non-combat related injuries.

Seyboth-Tirador, a 1998 graduate of Colonie Central High School, was on her second tour of duty in Iraq. She was working in military intelligence.

The family says there will be a full military funeral sometime early next week at Saratoga National Cemetary.
