Man shot a gun in his trailer; surprised bullet went next door

TROY, N.Y. (AP) - A Rensselaer County man who shot a .22-caliber pistol inside his trailer while he was smoking pot told a judge he thought the bullets were too small to go into a neighboring trailer.

Twenty-six-year-old Joseph Hallenbeck of Schodack pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony reckless endangerment for the shooting spree on the night of June 15. That's when he fired five shots into the interior wall of his home in a trailer park. Two bullets went through a couch next door, nearly hitting a little boy watching TV.

Judge Robert Jacon suggested to Hallenbeck that he may want to avoid smoking marijuana in the future.

Hallenbeck was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to drug therapy.
