Cohoes man accused of going over 150mph on motorcycle

A Cohoes man was arrested on Tuesday and accused of speeding away from police after a trooper attempted to stop him.

New York State Police in Troop G said that 20-year-old Nicholas C. Smiddy was driving a Honda motorcycle in the Town of Malta going over 80 miles per hour with a passenger.

Police said when they tried to stop him, Smiddy accelerated to over 150 miles per hour. The trooper followed Smiddy from a distance and pulled him over behind a church on Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs.

Smiddy was charged with reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, speeding at 150 miles per hour in a 65 miles per hour zone, driving without a motorcycle license and seven other moving vehicle and traffic law violations.

Smiddy is scheduled for arraignment in the Town of Malta on May 30 and the City of Saratoga Springs on June 6.
