ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Advocates including the Occupy Albany movement and clergy pushing New York's proposal to raise the minimum wage are gearing up for the final four weeks of the legislative session.
At a Tuesday rally at the Capitol, they hope to rivet attention on the proposal that has languished. Clergy will also target Senate Republicans in their home districts and advocates for the poor plan to "bird dog" Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo to keep the issue in the press.
The Assembly bill would increase the minimum wage to $8.50 for about 1 million workers. The minimum wage is now $7.25 an hour.
