NewsChannel 13’s Elaine Houston went to Albany High to meet another one of the best and brightest students in the area. She's excelled in academics, but has her eye on giving back to her community.
Albany High School Senior April Dawson is sharing what she's learned as a student in the school's leadership academy. But, if you spoke to some of her teachers, they would tell you April is a born leader.
The honors student will graduate with a GPA of 84. Along with participating in anti-bullying programs, she was an Albany Police Department cadet, has a CPR license, plays tennis, is in band, and she loves science.
Recently, she graduated as part of Albany High's first class to attend UAlbany’s Nano-High Technology program, at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.
She will be heading to college in the fall to study early childhood education with plans on becoming a teacher.
As she looks back on her time at her high school, she does so with great joy--saying she's been prepared for the future, but she knows success doesn't depend on others.
