DA Soares Makes Crime Pay

The district attorney, who is up for re-election, today handed over one of those symbolic checks to the Coeymans Police Department.
Over $18,000 to pay for several new assault rifles, some portable radios, and, half the cash, to pay for a new digital fingerprint system that's been dictated by the state, but, left to local taxpayers to pay for.
The chief says digital fingerprints are a big plus, instant match up with statewide records, and it eliminates about a two hour trip by one of his people to hand-deliver the prints to the state police, all thanks to the DA's fund
The DA says during his eight years in office, this program, called "Making Crime Pay" has handed out about $400,000 for things like guns, bulletproof vests, scholarships for police seminars, and even backpacks to give to kids.
