ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Communities across upstate New York are marking the nation's 236th birthday with a mixture of pyrotechnics, parades and living history.
At Fort Ticonderoga they're turning the clock back to 1775, a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed, to give visitors an American soldier's view of the growing conflict between the British and their rebellious colonies.
Meanwhile, the village of Ticonderoga is hosting its annual "Best Fourth in the North," a celebration that includes a parade, carnival, footrace and fireworks.
Saratoga National Historical Park is hosting a citizenship ceremony Wednesday morning, followed by a reading of the Declaration of Independence and firings of muskets and cannon.
The city of Newburgh is holding a fireworks display Wednesday night, with pyrotechnics launched from a barge on the Hudson River.
