Schumer to Olympics: Make uniforms in NY not China

ROCHESTER - They may be made in China, but they certainly aren't cheap.
If you want to dress like the U-S Olympic team, the men's blazer will cost $795. The flat front trousers another $295.
The women's blazer is $598, the silk skirt that goes with it an additional $498.
And none of the Ralph Lauren designed duds are made in the USA.
"The problem is that free trade also has to be fair trade," said former U-S Secretary of Labor Robert Reich. "So if you get countries like China that are unfairly subsidizing their manufacturers and unfairly keeping their currencies low, that's not free trade. That's something very different."
Congress has made note of this blatant outsourcing of manufacturing work that could have been done here.
Senator Chuck Schumer (D - N.Y.) has talked to Rochester-based Hickey-Freeman, who have needle and thread just waiting the starter's gun.
They're already making the spiffy attire Andrew Catalon and the rest of the NBC broadcast team will be wearing.
"This is not just buying a towel or a pair of pajamas," said Schumer. "These are the uniforms that our great athletes from around the country wear and they should, obviously, be made in America, particularly when we have great companies like Hickey-Freeman that are capable of doing it. This isn't something they couldn't get done here."
