Some Valatie residents are upset over plans for a mental health and drug abuse clinic in their area.
Columbia County human services are planning to use the top floor of the old Martin Glynn Elementary School on Church Street in Valatie.
The building is now jointly owned by the village and the Town of Kinderhook.
But opponents are gathering signatures on petitions, asking the town to reject use of the school building for patients with mental and drug problems.
The deputy director of human services told John McLoughlin that the horrible killings in Aurora, Colorado should remind all of us that we badly need clinics, like the one planned for Valatie.
