EAST GREENBUSH - A Troy couple has been charged with allegedly pulling off the same exact crime, on five separate occasions, at the same exact location. That location was a Target store on Route 4.
Store surveillance video shows a woman pushing a baby stroller and stopping to stock up on baby formula. Police say over the course of just over one month, and on five separate trips to the store, Marcella Schaeffer, 23, stole fifty cans of baby formula by stashing the cans in the bottom of a baby stroller, hiding them beneath her 4-month old infant.
"Doing it so many times, Target became aware of it and their security team was on the look out for them," said East Greenbush Police Sergeant E.A. Tubbs."When they went in the other day (Friday) they (Target officials) called us and as they (the suspects) came out, we were there."
Charged with five counts of larceny, and five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, were Schaeffer, and 27-year old Abraham Rone, both from Troy.
Their child has been placed in protective custody.
The value of the stolen merchandise, police say, is more than $600. The suspects remained in the Rensselaer County Jail Sunday night unable to come up with $2,500 bail.
