Postal officials report that mail deliveries in the area impacted by the chemical fire in West Ghent may be delayed today.

Rural deliveries that are affected by conditions include routes out of Chatham, East Chatham, East Nassau, Ghent, Kinderhook, Nassau, Niverville, Old Chatham, Schodack Landing, Canaan, Stuyvesant, Stephentown and Valatie.

Austerlitz, Brainard, Malden Bridge and Spencertown have Highway Contract Route deliveries that may travel through the impact area.  At this time, postal officials believe these deliveries may also be impacted today.

Other offices in the perimeter, but without delivery impact, include Columbiaville, New Baltimore, North Chatham, Stuyvesant Falls and West Lebanon.

Postal officials add that all offices are open but extended travel into the restricted area is still being withheld.
