The Primary Election in 13 days is expected to determine who wins the newly drawn 44th State Senate District.
The race pits eight term incumbent Neil Breslin against county legislative chairman Shawn Morse.
Although there are a number of primary races this year, most contests involve open seats.
This is not the case in the senate 44th, which covers the bulk of Albany County and some additional districts in the Troy area.
On one side is Neil Breslin, a state senator representing Albany County for 16 years.
He was endorsed today by the Public Employees Federation.
On the other side is 23-year Cohoes fire fighter Shawn Morse, who is the Chairman of the Albany County Legislature.
He's a union member and has some endorsements.
Each candidate questions the funding support of his opponent.
Breslin is getting significant money from insurance sources as an influential member of the Senate Insurance Committee.
Morse is getting support from friends of a group of Independent Democrats.
Those four lawmakers have broken from Breslin and mainstream Senate Dems.
